We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated professional to join our team at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Oberpfaffenhofen near Munich. As a key member of our Institute of Communications and Navigation, you will play a crucial role in the development of new system proposals for next-generation satellite navigation systems.

About the Position

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the existing cross-sectional group "Project Management & Systems Engineering". This group bundles the expertise in the field of systems engineering and (technical) project management in the Navigation department and coordinates and manages the department's general research work on such issues. The group is also responsible for research activities and the development of synchronization concepts and time scale generation (in theory and in practice), primarily using optical technologies.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the cross-sectional group "Project Management & Systems Engineering"
  • Develop new system proposals for next-generation satellite navigation systems
  • Coordinate and manage the department's general research work on systems engineering and project management
  • Develop synchronization concepts and time scale generation using optical technologies
  • Collaborate with international research teams and industry partners
Requirements
  • Completed scientific university degree (Master / Diploma) in engineering (e.g. electrical/information technology, communications engineering, aerospace engineering) or natural sciences (e.g. in mathematics, physics), or other courses of study relevant to the job, ideally with a PhD in one of the above-mentioned fields
  • Several years of experience in the field of satellite navigation and its supplementary systems
  • Comprehensive technical and methodological knowledge of the relevant system characteristics for the development of new high-performance architectures and concepts of satellite-based navigation to increase performance and efficiency
  • Proven experience in several of the relevant sub-areas of satellite navigation, such as antenna systems (satellite and/or user), receiver algorithms, optical laser links, time scales and references, signal and system performance, propagation effects and augmentation systems
  • Sound knowledge and extensive experience in project management as well as planning, implementation and management of international research projects with interdisciplinary project teams
  • Several years of experience in publishing and representing research results in/at international journals and conferences
  • Very good knowledge of English (business fluent)
  • Security clearance as well as the willingness to security clearance pursuant to §§ 8 ff. Security Clearance Act (SÜG) is a condition for employment at DLR.
  • Experience in the acquisition of third-party funding is an advantage
  • Ideally experience and skills in the field of systems engineering in the above-mentioned scientific research area
  • Experience in the supervision of scientific theses of master's/diploma or PhD students desirable
