Product Design Engineer

About the Role
Cummins Inc. is seeking a talented Product Design Engineer - Mechanical Systems Specialist to join our team in a key role that specializes in Engineering for our Product Development team.
Key Responsibilities
- Investigate and resolve issues related to the Product Introduction program and field-based problems, identifying causal mechanisms and recommending actions while documenting results.
- Support and execute critical Design Processes such as Critical Design Decisions, System Design and Validation Consideration Checklist, and Design Review, ensuring high-quality decision-making for component and subsystem-level designs.
- Utilize tools like iDFMEA, DVA, GD&T, CREO, and ANSYS Workbench to refine and validate design concepts, contributing to the development of robust and optimized products.
- Collaborate with cross-functional and cross-discipline technical experts to communicate design intent, participating in thorough Design Reviews for Product Development initiatives.
- Engage in Design Decision-Making Processes, focusing on concept selection, optimization, and specification to meet customer requirements and deliver effective product solutions.
- Independently execute established work processes and systems, while continually expanding your technical and product knowledge to enhance your contributions.
- Take ownership of resolving moderately complex design challenges, with the complexity and ambiguity of tasks increasing as you gain experience in the role.
- Coordinate and direct work among technicians or temporary student employees, contributing to team goals and enhancing overall project outcomes.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in a STEM Field: Especially in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Design.
- English and German Proficiency: At least B2 level in both languages.
- Specialization in Mechanical Systems or Design: Relevant coursework in mechanical systems, CAD modeling, or mechanical design.
- Knowledge of Manufacturing Processes: Understanding of production constraints through courses in materials science or manufacturing methods.
- Familiarity with Design and Analysis Tools: Experience with software like CREO and ANSYS.
