Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Database Management Systems Specialist to join our team at the European Southern Observatory (ESO). As a key member of our IT department, you will be responsible for the administration and maintenance of our database management systems, ensuring the smooth operation of our IT infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer and maintain database management systems, including SAP ASE, Oracle, and Microsoft.
- Configure and administer bi-directional database replication across a WAN.
- Assist development teams in the engineering of software using database technology.
- Provide support and advice to users on queries and application development.
- Develop and implement database transaction conflict resolution strategies.
- Install, configure, and maintain database servers, including tuning and backup and recovery.
- Develop and maintain a sound understanding of SQL and provide analysis and support to users.
- Take responsibility for establishing, measuring, enhancing, and fulfilling IT operational level agreements.
Requirements:
- A first-level university degree in any IT discipline or equivalent degree.
- An excellent command of the English language - oral, reading, and writing - is essential.
- A working knowledge of German and/or Spanish would be an advantage.
