Overview:
The Lead Mechanic for Aerospace Ground Equipment (AGE) is responsible for overseeing and mentoring AGE technicians, ensuring the thorough inspection, maintenance, and proper storage of assigned AGE assets. This role involves the maintenance and evaluation of hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and fuel systems, including those driven by turbine, diesel, and gasoline engines. The Lead Mechanic plays a crucial role in managing daily operations within the AGE shop and collaborates closely with the AGE Functional Manager and Site Manager to prioritize tasks effectively. All activities are conducted in compliance with USAF technical guidelines and the Performance Work Statement (PWS).
Key Responsibilities:
Serve as the primary supervisor, training AGE mechanics and conducting regular inspections, maintenance, and repair of AGE equipment. Manage inventory, including stocking and requisitioning necessary parts, tools, and supplies for maintenance tasks. Prepare AGE and related equipment for training exercises or actual deployments. Address inquiries regarding the storage and status of assigned equipment. Utilize diagnostic tools to troubleshoot and assess the serviceability of hydraulic, electrical, fuel, and pneumatic systems. Complete necessary documentation, including work orders and supply forms, while updating historical data and coordinating actions related to work orders. Direct maintenance activities in accordance with maintenance action sheets and technical orders. Establish quality standards for team members, implementing quality assurance practices aligned with ISO 9001:2015 standards, ensuring all work meets established quality benchmarks. Orient new team members, plan work assignments, and define work methodologies. Conduct on-the-job training for AGE mechanics, covering safety protocols, material safety data sheets, and security awareness. Maintain and update training records for personnel. Prepare and inspect equipment for transportation via air, sea, or land. Perform servicing and maintenance on operational assets, ensuring equipment is mission-ready. Submit quality and material deficiency reports and recommend technical order changes as necessary. Operate material handling equipment as required. Inspect hazardous materials within the work area and coordinate disposal with the appropriate office when necessary. Ensure all tools, personal protective equipment, and facilities are safe, secure, and in good working condition, reporting any deficiencies. Maintain a clean and organized work environment to the highest standards. Travel as required within the operational area to fulfill US Air Force tasking. Perform additional duties as assigned.Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent. Trade school certification. A minimum of four (4) to six (6) years of relevant maintenance experience. Familiarity with various types of AGE equipment. Strong electrical and mechanical background. Knowledge of diesel engine maintenance and HVAC systems. Forklift operation experience is essential. Proficiency in English, both written and spoken. Must be a resident of the EU and/or authorized to work in Germany.Additional Requirements:
Completion of AGE maintenance training from a military technical school or an accredited institution.Work Environment:
The role is conducted in a shop environment that is moderately lit, heated, and ventilated, with potential exposure to fumes and risks associated with tool usage and moving vehicles. Regular tasks may require standing, using hands for handling equipment, and effective communication. Physical demands include walking, reaching, and working in various positions. Employees may encounter loud noise levels and must adhere to safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as necessary. The ability to lift or move items weighing up to 50 lbs is required.
