This position is part of the EIFFEL (EffIcient Fullerene-Free organic solarcELs) Doctoral Network, focusing on the topic "Recombination mechanisms in fullerene-free photovoltaic devices" under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Carsten Deibel.
The EIFFEL network aims to develop efficient non-fullerene acceptors (NFAs), investigate operational mechanisms and degradation in non-fullerene organic solar cells (NFA-based OSCs), and establish synthetic strategies for their improvement, paving the way for a new generation of OSCs suitable for mass production and commercial success. The project provides opportunities for PhD candidates to engage with various universities, research centers, and industrial partners across seven European countries.
EIFFEL has received funding from the European Union's Horizon 2022 research and innovation programme under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action Doctoral Networks scheme.
Key Responsibilities:
- Training in fundamental characterization techniques for solar cell devices, particularly in optoelectronic frequency domain methods and sensitive photovoltaic subgap quantum efficiency and electroluminescence spectroscopy.
- Investigating radiative and nonradiative recombination of charge carriers in NFA OSCs.
- Engaging in drift-diffusion device simulation to model solar cells in both frequency domain and steady state.
- Conducting experimental fittings.
- Participating in research secondments at partner organizations within the EIFFEL Network.
- Attending specialized training meetings and international conferences.
The Doctoral Candidate will enroll in the doctoral student program at Chemnitz University of Technology.
The research outcomes will contribute to scientific publications and personal academic growth. This role is designed for further scientific qualification.
Required Qualifications and Attributes:
- A Master's degree or equivalent in Physics or a related field such as Materials Science, which qualifies for PhD programs, along with experience in experimental research.
- Proficiency in English (both written and spoken).
- A strong motivation and ability to collaborate within an interdisciplinary and international team.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Residing less than 12 months in the 3 years prior to the recruitment date in Germany.
- Not holding a PhD.
