Your responsibilities
The PhD Research Fellow will primarily engage in teaching and research activities. This position allows for the pursuit of further academic qualifications, particularly a doctoral dissertation. A minimum of one-third of the working hours will be allocated for the fellow's own academic work.
This position is designed for doctoral studies in natural sciences ('Dr. rer nat.'). The successful candidate will be guided and mentored by a faculty member.
The department focuses on the study of genetic variability in the adaptive immune system of vertebrates, emphasizing its significance for disease susceptibility and co-evolution between hosts and their parasites. Key molecular and genetic components in the antigen-specific immune response are of particular interest. The primary model systems utilized include humans and three-spined sticklebacks (Gasterosteus aculeatus). Both experimental and computational approaches will be employed to enhance understanding of antigen-specific immunity and its implications in complex diseases and fitness. The candidate will have the opportunity to develop their own doctoral research projects within this framework, with several project ideas available for customization based on their interests and experience.
The working language of the department is English.
Current teaching responsibilities for this position involve assisting in courses offered by the department.
Your profile
A university degree in a relevant field is required.
The ideal candidate should possess a solid background in biology, particularly in molecular biology/genetics, along with a strong interest in evolutionary biology. Prior exposure to immunology and experience with (bio)statistics, computational work, and genomic analyses is advantageous.
Proficiency in English is expected.
