Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, Deutschland Robert-Bosch-Krankenhaus GmbH Vollzeit
Position Overview:
We are seeking an Externally Funded Doctoral Student (m/f/d) to investigate the Epigenetic Regulation of Pancreatic Cancer Cell Plasticity within the Johnsen research group.

Employment Type:
Full-time

Field of Activity:
Research and Development

Company Background:
The research team led by Prof. Steven Johnsen operates under the umbrella of the Robert Bosch Center for Tumor Diseases (RBCT). This newly established non-profit translational cancer research institute is located at the Bosch Health Campus, adjacent to the Robert Bosch Hospital.

As a member of the National Center for Tumor Diseases (NCT) Southwest and the Comprehensive Cancer Center Tübingen-Stuttgart, RBCT is committed to pioneering cancer research and formulating innovative treatment strategies.

The Johnsen group specializes in unraveling intricate gene regulatory networks that influence pancreatic cancer development, employing cutting-edge methodologies such as genome-wide sequencing, CRISPR/Cas9 screening, and single-cell RNA sequencing.

Research Objectives:
The primary aim is to uncover gene regulatory mechanisms that can serve as novel therapeutic targets, enhancing treatment efficacy and patient survival rates in pancreatic cancer.

Key Responsibilities:
- Implement advanced sequencing techniques (e.g., RNA-seq, ChIP-seq) to explore epigenetic and gene regulatory dynamics in pancreatic tumor cells.
- Conduct bioinformatics analyses to interpret data and validate hypotheses.
- Execute multiplex immunofluorescence staining to verify gene regulatory mechanisms in primary tumor tissues using multispectral imaging.
- Prepare histological samples for single-cell RNA sequencing utilizing 10X Genomics technology.
- Perform sophisticated cell culture experiments to assess drug treatment impacts across various translational models.
- Engage in collaborative research initiatives, both internally and externally.
- Maintain thorough documentation of methodologies, data collection, and analysis.

Qualifications:
- A Master of Science in a relevant discipline (e.g., biology, molecular biology, biotechnology).
- Proven ability to secure external funding for the doctoral position (e.g., through fellowships).
- Experience in cell culture and transfection techniques.
- Strong background in molecular biology techniques (e.g., real-time PCR, Western blotting).
- A keen interest in bioinformatics and data analysis.
- High self-motivation and a structured, independent work style.
- Excellent teamwork skills and proficiency in written and spoken English.

What We Offer:
- A dynamic and international research environment.
- Extensive expertise in modern epigenetic methodologies.
- Access to advanced bioinformatics resources.
- A supportive team atmosphere that values collaboration and mutual respect.
- A history of successfully mentoring over 20 doctoral candidates to completion.
- A long-standing commitment to gene regulation and cancer research.

Note:
This position is contingent upon the successful acquisition of an externally funded fellowship for the duration of the project.
