About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Digital Humanities Specialist to join our team at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science. As a key member of our Digital Humanities team, you will play a crucial role in developing innovative digital tools and applications that integrate digital methods with historical research.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement solutions for integrating and processing diverse data modalities, including visual, audio, and graph data, for various digital humanities research projects.
  • Build and maintain relational databases and knowledge graphs to support our research initiatives.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to advance project goals and develop digital research tools that guide historians in exploring computational possibilities of using digitized historical data.
  • Communicate project results to a variety of audiences through effective communication and presentation skills.
Requirements
  • Strong background in software design and development in the field of digital humanities and digital history.
  • Master's degree in software engineering, computer science, digital humanities, data science, or other relevant disciplines, or equivalent work experience in developing successful digital humanities tools and applications.
  • Strong research profile and knowledge of full tech stack in web application development, including Python, Java, and JavaScript.
  • Familiarity with relational databases and proficient in SQL, as well as knowledge of knowledge graphs and SPARQL.
  • Rich experience with data processing and integration, preferably with knowledge of machine learning techniques.
  • Proficiency in English and good German language skills (or willingness to learn German).
