In this position, you will collaborate closely with customers to address their automation challenges by designing and implementing innovative and complex mechatronic solutions.
Summary: The Automation Solutions Engineer plays a crucial role in driving sales and expanding market presence for Festo in North America. This position specializes in Mechatronics, particularly in Motion Control technology, encompassing products such as Servo Drives and Motors, PLCs, HMIs, Motion Controllers, I/O Devices, and Cartesian Robots. The engineer will provide extensive technical expertise in Mechatronics to the sales team, distribution partners, and customers during the pre-sales phase, considering commercial factors when proposing solutions and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams for seamless coordination across departments. Additionally, the engineer will lead post-sales technical support efforts, working alongside Technical Support and Service departments to guide customers from project inception to operational acceptance, thereby closing the sales cycle and creating new opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:
Offer technical guidance and support to sales, distribution partners, and customers regarding specific applications and production processes within various industry segments. Develop technical content for marketing initiatives, including application or video tutorials. Engage with external control groups on public platforms to stay informed about market trends. Build and maintain relationships with controls engineers at customer organizations. Communicate regularly with other Automation Solutions Engineers and Technical Support colleagues across North America to share product and application insights. Provide onsite customer support for prototype startups to conduct "proof of concept" evaluations, demonstrating proficiency in third-party PLC software, network configuration, and device integration. Establish and maintain a repository of common software applications and libraries to streamline the commissioning process for customer applications. Collect customer feedback on product and solution usage and relay it to Product Management for future enhancements. Collaborate closely with the Technical Support department to deliver timely solutions for technical support inquiries. Assess the technical and commercial viability of proposals based on comprehensive technical and application knowledge. Discuss technical proposals, including controls and electromechanical products and solutions, to optimize machine performance with a strong emphasis on increasing component sales. Contribute to discussions on machine concepts to enhance the design of automated machinery, defining specifications and concepts. Provide support on matters related to industry norms and regulations. Identify and secure projects based on exceptional application, automation, and sector expertise. Share knowledge with Business Drivers to promote the adoption of solutions. May be required to work additional hours beyond standard business hours to fulfill essential duties and responsibilities. Travel may be necessary for business purposes, including skill development, training, customer visits, or company events, with arrangements determined by the company.Core Competencies:

Acts as the key technical liaison between customers and all relevant technical departments during the pre-sales phase of specific applications, in coordination with the Sales Engineer. Provides technical training and facilitates knowledge transfer to the Automation Solutions Engineer and Business Development teams for specific products/applications. Collaborates closely with Technical Support to resolve any outstanding customer technical issues.Preferred Experience / Education:
Proficiency in English; Spanish is a plus. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents. Effective communication skills for addressing sensitive inquiries or complaints. Capable of delivering effective presentations on technical or complex topics to customers. Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite. Experience with IEC-3 programming languages; familiarity with CODESYS, Rockwell Automation Studio, Siemens TIA Portal, Beckhoff TwinCAT 3, and/or Omron Sysmac Studio is advantageous. Knowledge of Python, C++, C#, and LabVIEW is a plus. Understanding of communication protocols such as EtherCAT, EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, Modbus TCP, TCP/IP, and IO-Link. Knowledge of motion control concepts, PLCs, and distributed I/O systems. Ability to size and design servo motor applications. Familiarity with pneumatics and pneumatic control logic. Strong troubleshooting skills. CAD knowledge. Bachelor's Degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering; an MBA is preferred. 5-10+ years of experience in project management, controls engineering, sales, and technical support within the industrial automation sector. Previous experience with Festo is a plus. Solid understanding of Mechatronics, electromechanical systems, or robotics engineering, along with a strong foundation in Industrial Automation. Experience in sales and customer relationship management. Excellent communication and presentation skills.-
