About the Position

We are seeking a highly skilled Project Coordinator to join our team at the Deutsches Zentrum für Astrophysik (DZA) in Görlitz. As a key member of our Pilot Team for Cutting Edge Method Developments in Radio Astronomy, you will play a crucial role in the development of the next generation of radio astronomical algorithms and data processing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project management and coordination of subprojects, including establishment and coordination of a research group
  • Conception and realization of subprojects, as well as reporting
  • Contribution to the development of data science at the DZA
  • Administrative tasks related to the research project and research group, including writing of project reports and communication with project partners
  • Independent and autonomous research in one of the main project areas: infrastructure for handling large radio astronomical data sets, FPGA based methods for the detection of transient radio events, and software-based radio camera for the next generation of radio telescopes
  • Participation in local, national and international meetings and conferences, including presentation of research results
  • Publication of results at internationally recognized conferences and in renowned journals, collaboration with international experts
  • Scientific support in the procurement of high-tech scientific and technical equipment
Requirements
  • University degree and PhD in physics, mathematics, computer science, electrical engineering, astronomy, astrophysics or a related discipline
  • Comprehensive specialist knowledge in the fields of physics, mathematics, computer science, electrical engineering, astronomy and/or astrophysics
  • Knowledge and experience in European funding, procurement and contract law, as well as in cooperation with industrial partners
  • Experience in the coordination of project groups
  • Knowledge and experience in the organization and implementation of research projects
  • Ability to work under pressure, flexibility and adaptability in an evolving organization
  • Willingness to travel for business purposes
