Director of Gastroenterology Medical Affairs

Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert medical and clinical insights to shape the Gastroenterology medical strategy through both internal and external engagements, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
- Act as a subject matter expert in the Gastroenterology therapeutic area, offering insights on medical practice, intended use, and anticipated clinical impact throughout the product lifecycle.
- Collaborate with the Global Head of Clinical Affairs to design and implement impactful clinical investigations, leveraging therapeutic expertise to inform study designs.
- Support the Clinical Evaluation team by advising on literature search strategies, data appraisal, and clinical benefit assessments, contributing to key documents such as Clinical Evaluation Plans and Reports.
- Facilitate coordination of patient care across various conditions and settings to ensure safe, effective, and patient-centric care.
- Assist in health economic outcomes research to support market access initiatives by aligning resources effectively.
- Provide critical insights to support the strategic goals of the Gastroenterology business through productive engagements with healthcare professionals and scientific communities.
- Contribute to the development of patient care pathways and scientific communication strategies, including responses to Medical Information Requests.
- Advocate for the unique needs of the Gastroenterology business within the broader strategy, focusing on infrastructure advancements and best practices.
- Engage with cross-functional teams to provide expertise in risk management and benefit-risk determinations.
- Serve as a member of the GI Business leadership team, contributing to medical affairs strategy and scientific engagement.
- Collaborate with various departments, including Legal, Finance, and Compliance, to ensure comprehensive support for the Gastroenterology business.
- Provide medical insights to guide the review of promotional materials, adapting them to evolving medical practices.
- Offer scientific input into Business Development, R&D, and marketing strategies, ensuring alignment with medical priorities.
Qualifications
- Medical Doctor (MD) degree with independent clinical practice experience.
- Fellowship training in Gastroenterology and board certification.
- Additional advanced degrees (PhD, MS, MBA, or MPH) are preferred.
- Active participation in a Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program and a valid medical license.
- Significant experience in the biotechnology/pharmaceutical/medical device industry, particularly in medical affairs and strategy.
- In-depth knowledge of the Gastroenterology therapeutic area and global healthcare delivery systems.
- Proven success in product support and strategic insight for commercialization plans.
- Experience executing medical and scientific plans on a global scale.
- Ability to navigate evolving environmental and market access issues.
- Experience working in a matrixed organization and collaborating with diverse stakeholders.
- Strong analytical skills to synthesize complex data and scientific information.
- Excellent communication skills in English, with the ability to engage effectively at all organizational levels.
- Flexibility to accommodate a global schedule across multiple time zones.
