Erlangen, Bayern, Deutschland Siemens Energy Vollzeit
Overview of Your Role
As a recent graduate or young professional, are you eager to actively contribute to the energy transition and immerse yourself in a thriving market environment where innovation and growth intersect? If you are interested in participating in projects that provide key technologies for electricity transmission from generation sites to consumption areas, then consider joining the dynamic world of power transmission at Siemens Energy. We are looking for motivated individuals to join our engineering teams and participate in a comprehensive training program designed to equip you with essential technical skills in HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) and FACTS (Flexible AC Transmission System). This program includes networking events, in-person and virtual training sessions, and on-the-job training to ensure our new team members are well-prepared.

Your Responsibilities
In our team of experts working on HVDC control systems, we are seeking a dedicated engineer to focus on the DC protection and measurement systems. Your role will involve:
  • Ensuring that all necessary measurements for HVDC systems are accurately captured, pre-processed, and transmitted to the respective receivers, including control and protection systems.
  • Establishing the foundation for DC protection of the entire HVDC system through thorough investigations and designs, creating technically optimal solutions for our clients' challenges.
  • Parameterizing protection functions using analytical and simulation methods, conducting extensive protection coordination studies, and adapting software and hardware integration on our test facilities.
  • Collaborating closely with other teams to achieve the best solutions for our clients while analyzing and resolving complex system-related issues, ensuring system stability and security.
  • Participating in cross-team initiatives to advance collaboration within the HVDC sector through training, workshops, and continuous improvement efforts.

Your Qualifications
We welcome both experienced professionals in high voltage transmission and recent graduates. Ideal candidates will possess:
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills to foster creative and results-oriented project development.
  • Proficiency in both German and English.
  • Experience with MATLAB/SIMULINK, preferably in real-time and embedded software, as well as modeling and simulation with PSCAD/EMTDC.
  • Familiarity with software project design and testing of control, regulation, and system dynamics.
  • Initial experience in control and protection, particularly in developing DC protection concepts for HVDC, FACTS, or large converter applications.
  • A proactive attitude towards learning, independence, and solution-oriented thinking.
  • A completed Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, ideally with a focus on power electronics, high voltage technology, or energy transmission systems, potentially complemented by a doctoral degree.

About Our Team
Our passionate and highly motivated team in HVDC engineering is dedicated to the DC protection and measurement systems of HVDC plants. We continuously develop optimal solutions for our clients' complex requirements through extensive research and studies. We actively share our knowledge through mentoring and internal training to foster collective growth within our team. Our work environment promotes collaboration and creativity, supported by a hybrid office concept.

As part of the HVDC control and protection team, we design, implement, and verify hardware and software for innovative HVDC applications using lean and agile methodologies. Our diverse and international teams work closely with project management, equipment manufacturing, and end customers to deliver tailored solutions based on the latest innovations in HVDC technology.

With the increasing share of renewable energy, growing energy demand, outdated infrastructure, and rising complexity, new connections are essential. Existing networks also require upgrades and renewals to support the energy transition.
