Engineering Specialist - Power Conversion
Location: Aachen/Bonn, Germany
About the Role:
In this role, you will lead projects focused on innovation in energy transition and digitalization. This includes areas such as distributed energy resource management, the implementation of new grid services, and the development of solutions aimed at enhancing power quality. You will also work on integrating electric vehicle charging solutions and advanced monitoring strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Regional Team Lead at Eaton Research Labs to identify technical gaps and shape the technology roadmap for Eaton's power systems.
- Engage in the complete spectrum of technical responsibilities, including the design, implementation, and integration of innovative solutions.
- Develop and design cutting-edge technologies in both AC and DC power systems to ensure Eaton's competitive edge in the market.
- Design, implement, and validate control and optimization concepts for diverse energy system applications.
- Transform innovative concepts into prototypes and conduct feasibility studies.
- Act as a subject matter expert, participating actively in industry and technical groups.
- Assist the Aachen/Bonn team in establishing new research initiatives.
- Drive innovation by securing intellectual property through patents and publishing in reputable journals.
- Serve as Principal Investigator during project proposal preparation, execution, and reporting.
- PhD or PhD candidate nearing graduation in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution. A Master's degree in the same fields is also acceptable.
- Proven experience in developing technology solutions with a strong track record.
- Expertise in areas such as EV charging, power systems automation, and energy management systems.
- Experience in integrating control and management algorithms in field tests and demonstration projects.
- Knowledge of integrating generation and storage technologies in demonstration environments.
- Experience in demand response, energy storage, renewable energy, and microgrid integration with power grid operations.
- Proficiency in advanced control and optimization methods for modern energy systems.
- Familiarity with power systems simulation software like MATLAB/Simulink.
- Experience with real-time simulations and hardware-in-the-loop testing.
