Position Overview: The Climate Strategy & Risk Branch Manager is responsible for guiding the development and execution of solutions, knowledge management, and training initiatives within the Climate Strategy & Risk team in Germany. This role involves close collaboration with the Global Climate Strategy Lead.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary contact in Germany for all matters related to Climate Strategy & Risk, overseeing project sales and execution while managing a team of currently two members and supporting recruitment efforts.
- Maintain an overview of team competencies, recommending appropriate team members and configurations for projects based on their expertise, development needs, and interests.
- Advise on team sizing and competency evolution in alignment with branch business requirements, working in conjunction with the country leadership team and essential support functions.
- Lead and nurture team members, ensuring they are positioned for success and focused on continuous improvement and professional growth, while upholding scientific integrity and delivering high-quality projects.
- Align client needs with existing and innovative solution offerings, acting as the key representative and liaison for the branch within the global community of expertise.
Additional Duties:
- Act as a subject matter expert in climate-related issues, recognized both internally and externally for providing valuable insights into projects.
- Contribute advanced domain expertise while executing enterprise-level transformational initiatives.
- Build credible, trusted relationships with senior client contacts and actively seek exposure to client executive sponsors.
- Play a proactive role in the sales process for all climate strategy and risk-related project opportunities.
Qualifications for Success:
- Ability to quickly understand client needs and formulate relevant recommendations regarding climate strategy and risk.
- Creatively apply climate expertise to meet the unique and evolving needs of key accounts and transformative initiatives.
- Develop innovative solutions to address client sustainability challenges, inspiring understanding of the rationale for transformative change.
- Recognized as an effective leader across multiple teams and within the global climate strategy community.
Candidate Profile:
- A passion for utilizing technical expertise, consulting, and leadership skills to align businesses with planetary boundaries, grounded in a belief in the power of science for achieving true sustainability.
- A minimum of 7 years of professional experience in the private sector, preferably with some background in consulting.
- Expertise in core Climate Strategy & Risk areas, including goal setting (Science-Based Targets, Net Zero), mitigation strategies, risk assessment, and familiarity with carbon accounting frameworks.
- A Master's or PhD degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- A strong scientific foundation coupled with deep intellectual curiosity and business acumen.
- Recognized as a thought leader in Climate Strategy & Risk with a vision for its evolution in transforming businesses.
- Proficient in project management and leadership, capable of organizing, motivating, and coaching teams to achieve objectives.
- Experience managing multiple significant projects at key account levels.
- Ability to collaborate with stakeholders at various levels to address client inquiries and support business development efforts.
- Fluent communication skills in English; proficiency in German is highly desirable.
- Strong external communication skills for marketing positioning and representation.
- A commitment to rigor, transparency, and pragmatism in providing actionable recommendations.
- Comfortable articulating complex concepts in simple terms to diverse audiences, including executives.
