Finnish Translator Trainee

About the Role

As a Trainee Finnish Translator at the European Central Bank, you will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience in translating a wide range of texts from English into Finnish. Your role will involve translating texts in the fields of central banking and banking supervision, as well as proof-reading texts written in Finnish.

Key Responsibilities

• Translate English texts into Finnish, ensuring accuracy and cultural relevance.
• Proof-read Finnish texts for grammar, syntax, and style.
• Identify, extract, and compile terminology in Finnish.
• Contribute to other activities of the Finnish team, such as maintaining translation memories and providing linguistic and drafting advice as required.

Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will need:

• A bachelor's degree or higher in modern languages or translation.
• Experience of translating English texts into Finnish, either as part of a degree course or in a professional context.
• A good knowledge of the MS Office package, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• A native-speaker standard (C2) command of Finnish and an advanced (C1) command of English.

Desirable Qualifications

While not essential, the following qualifications and experience would be highly desirable:

• A master's degree (completed or in the final stages of completion) in modern languages or translation.
• An intermediate (B1) command of another official EU language.
• Familiarity with translation using computer-assisted translation tools such as Trados Studio and an interest in machine translation and language technology.
• A broad knowledge of European current affairs, with a particular interest in financial and economic matters.
