Research Areas
Our research domains are varied and dynamic. At our Oldenburg site, we specialize in aerodynamics and numerical meteorology related to wind energy. We welcome your active participation, providing you with insights into our latest research and development initiatives. For instance, you could apply your skills to enhance and validate the precision of wind farm shadow flow models. If you have a passion for simulating wind turbine aerodynamics or enjoy programming, this is the ideal environment for you. Are you interested in the implications of weather or climate change on wind energy production? We explore these vital topics as well. If hydrogen is your focus, we also conduct flow simulations in electrolysis. We encourage you to share your ideas and become an integral part of our international IWES team, where we value open communication in both German and English. Your Qualifications
What is your academic background? Depending on the position, various fields of study may align well with our needs. If you are currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Meteorology, Physics, Oceanography, Mathematics, or IT, you will find a strong match with our research areas. Have you previously engaged with wind energy or fluid mechanics during your studies? Perhaps you have enhanced your theoretical understanding through internships or part-time roles? If you are keen to broaden your knowledge and contribute your insights, we are excited to meet you.

Whether you are seeking an internship for comprehensive exposure to our work areas or a student assistant role that complements your studies, we can accommodate your needs. If you are in search of a compelling topic for your thesis and wish to explore it in depth, we will collaborate with you to find the right direction. We understand that academic commitments can be demanding, and we offer flexibility in determining your working days and hours in agreement with your colleagues. Depending on the role, there may also be opportunities for remote work as a student assistant.

Our positions are time-limited, with potential for individual adjustments. For student assistantships (which can be combined with thesis work), the working hours can be up to 80 hours per month. Internships typically consist of 39 hours per week. Compensation for student assistantships is based on the general works agreement for assistant staff, while internship remuneration follows federal guidelines.
