Doctoral Scholarship in Metabolic Interaction Networks

The Faculty of Biology and Chemistry at Justus-Liebig-Universität Giessen is offering a doctoral scholarship in the field of metabolic interaction networks. The successful candidate will work on the project "Metabolic interaction network of the human host-microbiota for context-specific disease".

Project Description

The project aims to investigate the metabolic interaction networks between the human host and microbiota. The successful candidate will develop and apply computational models to understand the dynamics of these interactions and their impact on disease.

Requirements
  • University degree in Systems Biology, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Mathematics, Biological Engineering, or a related field
  • Above-average study and examination results demonstrating a particular aptitude for scientific work
  • Strong background in computational tools and programming languages (Python, MATLAB)
  • Familiarity with the COBRAPy and GEM software is a plus
  • Experience in machine learning, dynamical modeling, big data analysis, microbial genomics, genome-scale modeling, and metabolic network analysis
  • Willingness for active interdisciplinary cooperation and high intrinsic motivation in a team-working
  • High willingness to independently familiarize yourself with new technologies and strengthen your own profile
  • Compliance with the statutes of Justus-Liebig-Universität Giessen to ensure good scientific practice in all work
What We Offer

The doctoral scholarship includes a monthly stipend of €1,200 plus a monthly lump sum of €150 for material and travel expenses. The scholarship is granted for 36 months.
