Konstanz, Baden-Württemberg, Deutschland Universität Konstanz Vollzeit

Position Overview
The University of Konstanz invites applications for a position in the field of sensory neuroscience, focusing on the neuronal mechanisms underlying olfactory processing and social behavior in insects.

About Us
Our Zoology and Neuroscience Group is dedicated to exploring the intricacies of olfactory coding, behavior, learning, and memory in various insect species, including honeybees, ants, fruit flies, and locusts. We pride ourselves on our international and interdisciplinary team, which integrates optophysiology, electrophysiology, behavioral studies, and computational neuroscience. The primary language of communication within our team is English.

Key Responsibilities
  • Establish and develop an independent research focus aimed at elucidating the neuronal foundations of olfactory processing and social interactions.
  • Engage in collaborative research initiatives both within the department and with external partners, including the IMPRS (Graduate School collaboration between the University of Konstanz and Max Planck) and the Excellence Cluster on Collective Behavior.
  • Contribute to educational activities in Zoology and Neuroscience across various academic levels (Bachelor, Master, Teacher's training, Graduate School). Proficiency in German is not required, as most instruction is conducted in English.
Qualifications
  • A Ph.D. in a relevant field, with a strong background in neurobiology and insect behavior.
  • We particularly welcome candidates with expertise in areas such as insect olfaction, olfactory coding, learning and memory, computational neuroscience, collective behavior, and odor communication in social insects.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
What We Offer
  • Opportunities for professional development, comprehensive training, and a competitive compensation package.
  • An engaging and interdisciplinary research environment focused on the neurobiology of insects.
  • Access to advanced equipment within the Neuroscience group, including electrophysiology tools, optical imaging systems, multiphoton microscopy, behavioral setups, gas chromatography, and animal care facilities.
  • Utilization of central resources within the Biology department, such as the bioimaging center, proteomics center, and electron microscopy facilities, as well as the Cluster of Excellence.

We are eager to receive applications from qualified candidates.
