We are currently seeking a committed and seasoned Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Strategist to oversee various projects and teams. The ideal candidate should have substantial experience in the EHS sector, particularly within critical industries such as data centers, oil & gas, or pharmaceuticals. This position requires a strategic mindset and a proven track record of engaging with senior leadership to promote EHS excellence across multiple initiatives.
Your Responsibilities:
- Act as a subject matter expert (SME) for general contractors (GCs), project delivery, and operational management as required.
- Work closely with the procurement team to engage in GC, Third Party Risk Management (TPRM), Pre-Qualification Questionnaire (PQQ), and Request for Proposal (RFP) processes, including subsequent review meetings and interviews for assigned projects.
- Conduct monthly evaluations with the EH&S Director and Senior EH&S Director, providing progress reports for the EMEA region.
- Perform EHS site evaluations and audits of GCs on the tender list for compliance, and participate in quarterly PQQ review processes with the procurement department.
- Engage in the safety-in-design process, lead investigations into incidents and accidents, and support GC safety enhancement plans as necessary.
- Review and approve monthly EHS compliance reports for your designated projects, ensuring timely submission.
- Advance the environmental impact program across EMEA, verify compliance with environmental impact assessments (EIA), and oversee system compliance.
- Guide and mentor site EH&S Advisors and Managers in implementing and maintaining effective EHS systems, policies, procedures, and compliance metrics.
- Conduct EHS onboarding for site personnel, hold regular support meetings, and visit project sites to monitor performance.
- Promote a culture of care regarding EHS standards and performance, leading wellness initiatives and campaigns for your projects.
- Participate in bi-annual EHS Management System Reviews to incorporate lessons learned and best practices, ensuring these insights are shared across all EMEA sites.
- Attend client meetings and site inspections as required.
- Ensure the proper appointment of GCs under statutory obligations, including fit-out activities for projects.
- Challenge existing practices and drive continuous improvement in EHS initiatives.
- Contribute to the annual selection and recognition of GC EHS winners and assist in the preparation and execution of safety events.
- Act as an advocate for corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives and programs.
- Stay informed about legislative changes, communicate their implications to key stakeholders, and participate in relevant training to ensure accurate implementation of EHS legislation.
- Adapt to evolving responsibilities within the scope of your role as the organization grows.
Qualifications:
- At least 7 years of experience in EHS, with a minimum of 3 years in a leadership role.
- Experience in critical sectors such as data centers, oil & gas, or pharmaceuticals is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability as a client representative and in regulatory engagement.
- Fluency in German with a strong understanding of local EHS legislation.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of effectively liaising with senior management.
- Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Comprehensive knowledge of local, state, and federal HSE regulations, with a history of developing and implementing HSE programs and policies.
- Preferred certifications include Certified Safety Professional, ISO, NEBOSH, or equivalent.
Compensation: Up to €120k per annum, all-inclusive, based on experience.
Note: A valid work permit for the job location is essential for this position.
