Heavy Vehicle Inspector

Purpose: Conducts both scheduled and unscheduled evaluations of maintenance activities and repairs carried out on vehicles and equipment.
Key Responsibilities: To excel in this role, an individual must competently perform each essential duty.
- Supervises, assists, or executes inspections on various classifications of wheeled vehicles and equipment at the unit maintenance level.
- Oversees, assists, or performs initial inspections upon equipment delivery, documenting data for maintenance work orders, troubleshooting identified issues, and conducting in-process inspections as necessary during the repair phase. Completes a final inspection after maintenance repairs to ensure quality standards are achieved.
- Prepares inspection and testing records, making them accessible to the Quality Assurance/Quality Control Department.
- Validates that procedures in use are sufficient for effective quality control, rejects substandard workmanship and materials, and certifies test results on relevant documentation.
- Offers guidance and technical support to maintenance personnel regarding inspection standards, procedures, and expected quality of work.
- Ensures adherence to governmental and corporate regulations, company Standard Operating Procedures, directives, and technical manuals to uphold a quality management program.
- Maintains communication with Quality Assurance and Logistics Assistance Representatives.
- Collaborates with the Shop Supervisor when technical challenges arise, requiring advanced mechanical knowledge.
- Engages in cross-training as necessary to enhance flexibility and technical skills in the development and maintenance of quality programs.
- Promotes a safety-first culture within work areas, aiming for low accident rates and minimal lost-time injuries.
- Complies with ISO Policies, Procedures, and Work Instructions in support of the Amentum Quality Management System.
- Undertakes additional duties as assigned, including troubleshooting, maintenance, and repairs on various wheeled vehicles and equipment, both tactical and non-tactical.
- Maintains accurate daily timesheets and manning reports.
- Performs other assigned tasks as necessary.
Qualifications & Experience: The qualifications listed below represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities required.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- 1 to 2 years of experience in wheeled vehicle maintenance is required.
- Preferred: 1 to 2 years of experience as a wheeled vehicle inspector.
- Full or partial Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification or European equivalent is preferred.
- Military experience equivalent to Army 91B is preferred.
- Work experience may substitute for educational requirements, and vice versa.
- Must demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of general quality inspection procedures, maintenance documentation, reporting systems, and their management.
- Must understand the scopes and limitations of various maintenance categories and their applications.
- Must be capable of reading, interpreting, and utilizing complex blueprints, schematic diagrams, and data tables.
- Must perform thorough technical inspections of contract units and verify that completed repairs meet the standards outlined in applicable publications.
- Must be able to instruct and demonstrate proper maintenance techniques and procedures.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and be able to operate a government general-purpose vehicle.
- Must meet and maintain all base access security requirements.
- Must meet and maintain all Logistics Information System (LIS) access requirements.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location.
- Must have or be able to obtain a US Passport.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills:
- Must be proficient in speaking, reading, writing, and understanding English.
- Must have knowledge of diagnostic tools and forms utilized at the unit level.
- Must be able to read vehicle and equipment schematics.
- Must possess the ability to analyze and interpret Army Technical Manuals concerning vehicle maintenance and repair.
Additional Requirements:
1) LICENSE AND CERTIFICATIONS:
- A valid driver's license is mandatory.
2) PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- The role requires stooping, sitting, kneeling, standing, walking, lifting up to 50 pounds independently, and 51+ pounds with assistance.
- Ability to perform job duties efficiently and effectively for up to a 48-hour work week.
- Must be able to endure long hours, including overtime as required.
3) WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently walks, sits, uses hands to handle or feel, reaches with hands and arms, climbs or balances, stoops, kneels, crouches, or crawls, and talks or hears. The employee occasionally stands and must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, and outdoor weather conditions.
- There may be exposure to risks of electrical shock, vibration, fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and radiation. The noise level in the work environment is typically loud.
- May be required to deploy on missions on short notice as directed.
- Must be proficient in speaking, reading, writing, and understanding English.
