Doctoral Researcher in Computational Communication

We are seeking a highly motivated and qualified researcher to join our team at the University of Zurich. As a doctoral researcher in computational communication, you will be responsible for conducting high-quality research in the field of computational media and communication.
- Conduct research in computational media and communication, with a focus on developing and applying computational methods to analyze and understand digital media.
- Attend academic conferences and publish research papers in top-tier journals in the field of communication and media studies.
- Teach one class per semester in our BA/MA programs, relevant to your research interests.
- Contribute to organizational and administrative tasks within the department.
To be successful in this role, you will need to have a strong background in communication science, computer science, data science, digital humanities, or a closely related field. You should also have strong programming skills in R and/or Python, as well as a track record of computational research in digital media.
- Master's degree in a relevant field.
- Strong programming skills in R and/or Python.
- Experience in computational research of digital media.
- Relevant skills include Natural Language Processing (NLP), computer vision, network analysis, and audio signal processing.
- Experience or interests in researching visually-rich digital media platforms is an advantage.
- Proficiency in English is mandatory for research and publication purposes.
We offer a 3-year doctoral position (60% paid according to cantonal salary scheme), with the possibility of extension for an additional 3 years. You will have the opportunity to work on a research project focused on computational communication research, and will be part of a dynamic and interdisciplinary team at the University of Zurich.
