Life Cycle Assessment Specialist

**Job Description Summary**: The Life Cycle Assessment Engineer leads development of the product environmental strategy for GE GRID GSI business, in line with customer and market needs. This includes efforts to integrate environmentally driven insights into product and business decisions and build a framework to monitor and mitigate the environmental footprint of the Onshore/Offshore portfolio (including products, services, and supply chain). The position requires previous knowledge and experience in LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) and eco-design to lead and implement GRID GSI Onshore / Offshore product environmental process.
Life Cycle Assessment Engineers have an important role to play in designing our products with circularity and low-carbon footprint in mind: utilizing more recycled materials into our products, reducing waste in our designs and our manufacturing, extending the lifetimes of our products, and developing materials and designs that can be more easily recycled. Each of these design changes will come with environmental, performance and cost trade-offs that we need to be able to quantify using digital tools. Furthermore, we need to be able to utilize these insights to make strategic decisions on our technology decarbonization and circularity roadmaps.
The role is global, cross-functional and needs to have a strong understanding of the entire GRID GSI Value Chain.
**Your Mission**:
As Life Cycle Assessment Engineer, you will help us integrate Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) into new product development, leveraging digital tools, as the basis for GRID GSI to set and measure progress towards ambitious targets on product environmental footprint and eco-innovation.
- As Life Cycle Assessment Engineer, you will:_
- Be responsible for the preparation of GRID GSI LCAs of products, services, technologies, and supply chain in accordance with ISO standards.
- Conduct LCAs in SimaPro software.
- Establish an Eco-design procedure as part of the NPI process by implementing tools, dashboards, and KPIs that distill Eco data into actionable insights to inform design, planning, and implementation decisions.
- Establish, measure, and monitor product sustainability KPIs.
- Develop Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and lead the respective certification processes.
- Collaborate across teams including NPI (New Project Introduction) team, Materials Engineering, Sourcing and Manufacturing to automate life cycle inventories from GRID GSI onshore/offshore Wind operations and supply chain.
- Ensure process alignment with GE Vernova Product sustainability lead and wider GE’s LCA practitioners’ community.
- Partner with GRID GSI’s Communications and Commercial teams in developing communication materials related to product environmental assessment and customer product requirements.
- Communicate findings and recommendation to the wider Engineering, Sourcing and Manufacturing teams, translating environmental information into easily understood materials for internal and external stakeholders.
**Key Requirements**:
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, Science, or a related field
- Master’s degree in engineering, Science or a related field or PhD desired
- Experience working with multiple stakeholders
- Familiarity with life cycle assessment standards and guidelines (including ISO 14040/14044) and corporate sustainability standards.
- Experience using life cycle assessment software and developing models - **SimaPro**:
- Fluent in English, good level of German (B2/C1)
**Desired Characteristics**:
- Broader xpertise on one or more key topics (e.g., bio-based materials, circular economy, biodiversity, industrial ecology)
- Ability to communicate complex information on sustainability and data to non-technical audiences.
- Strong analytical skills related to data manipulation, analysis, and uncertainty.
- Knowledge or experience supporting environmental claims.
- Knowledge of quantification of environmental impacts and understanding of environmental science and issues related to the environment, circular economy, and eco-design as they relate to products and operations - how important/relevant?
- Knowledge of GaBi Software is a plus.
