EMBO is a not-for-profit organization that promotes excellence in life sciences in Europe and beyond. We fund talented researchers at all stages of their careers, stimulate scientific exchanges through high-quality academic publishing, conferences and lectures, and help build a research environment where scientists can achieve their best work.
Our international staff of around 65 members from a variety of countries, personal circumstances and professional backgrounds work closely together for the greater good and make EMBO a truly diverse organization. EMBO Press publishes four prestigious scientific research journals, _The EMBO Journal, EMBO Reports, Molecular Systems Biology _and _EMBO Molecular Medicine_. A fifth journal, _Life Science Alliance_, is published in association with Rockefeller University Press and Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Press. EMBO Press contributes to the Review Commons pre-print peer review platform.
EMBO is located on the international EMBL life sciences research campus in Heidelberg, Germany.
Your role
As a scientific editor you will join the _Molecular Systems Biology_ team at EMBO Press.
You will contribute your broad, international high-level research experience and will play a key role in ensuring that _Molecular Systems Biology_ and EMBO Press publish peer-reviewed material of the highest quality and broad general interest in accordance with EMBO Press policies.
You will work closely with the team of currently 22 scientific editors and editorial assistants, and report to the Head of Scientific Publications, EMBO Press.
Your main responsibilities will be:
- Commissioning, peer review and developmental editing of high-level reviews, commentaries and “News & Views” articles;
- Accepting for publication and transfer to publisher of manuscripts that meet EMBO Press publication polices. Writing and editing editorial summaries and press releases;
- Attending conferences and visiting research institutes to represent _Molecular Systems Biology_, EMBO Press, and EMBO, with the aim of attracting publishable submissions and review commissions, as well as fostering knowledge about EMBO Press and EMBO;
- Delivering talks
You have
- Completed successful postdoctoral research projects, particularly in a subset of the following:
- integrative genome-scale biology,
- quantitative biology,
- metabolic / regulatory networks,
- evolution of genomes / biological networks,
- synthetic biology / genome-scale biological engineering,
- systems medicine;
- Experience working in a diverse set of fast-paced, highly collaborative, international academic environments;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English;
- A decisive, judicious, detail-oriented, analytical and impartial mind;
- Good organizational skills, multi-tasking, an ability to prioritise and to follow guidelines while working autonomously.
