The Hertie School in Berlin prepares exceptional students for leadership positions in government, business, and civil society. We seek to fill the position of
**Associate Media Relations (gn)**
full-time (40 hours/week), to start in summer 2024.
Your tasks:
- Establish and maintain a strong network of journalists within Germany and Europe;
- Proactively identify media opportunities for our faculty and researchers, and work with our Centres of Competence to raise their profile and widen our reach across a variety of media outlets;
- Answer enquiries from the press or other media representatives;
- Draft, edit and distribute content, including press releases, articles for our website, and other written materials (such as interviews or messages for social media) in both English and German;
- Maintain up-to-date media contacts in our contact database:
- Monitor, analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of our media activities with an eye to widening our impact and reach;
- Plan, write, edit and distribute our monthly newsletter, “What’s New”;
- Act as a media liaison for our student-led publication, the Governance Post.
Your profile:
- University degree, preferably graduate level, in the field of journalism, communications, public relations, or a degree in the humanities or social sciences with relevant professional experience;
- Proven professional experience in journalism, PR/marketing, corporate communications, or agency experience, ideally in a political, academic, or civil society environment, ideally in Germany;
- Knowledge of the German and European media landscape and an established network;
- An ability to communicate confidently and clearly about complex research issues - you are great at pitching stories, identifying key messages in reports or academic research and “translating” this for general audiences in an engaging, readable way;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in German and English (the Hertie School´s working language is English, German media contacts require German speaking competencies);
- Strong attention to detail, ability to edit and refine complex texts on a variety of topics and themes;
- Good planning and organisational skills with the ability to multi-task.
