As one of the major technical universities in Germany, Technical University of Darmstadt is dedicated to questions of circular economy, circularity and sustainability in the built environment at a scientific level. The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering focuses on the planning, design, construction, use and deconstruction of buildings and infrastructures as well as on the related resource management and environmental impacts and is currently intensifying its research and teaching activities in this field.
In this context, the department has a vacancy for the winter semester 2024/25 as
**Assistant Professorship W2 Tenure Track for Circularity in Civil and Environmental Engineering**:
initially for a period of 6 years.
We are looking for person who will develop and represent **Circularity in Civil and Environmental Engineering** in research and teaching. The new professorship will research methods and technologies to enable objective, data-based decisions in procurement, construction, use, and reuse.
The professorship is intended to establish the newly created area of **Circularity in Civil and Environmental Engineering** in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering as a link between disciplines in civil and environmental engineering sciences and to represent this area in research and teaching.
- Development of engineering methods and approaches for sustainability assessment and evaluation of planning and development processes.
- Implementation of Attributional Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), Consequential LCA, scenario analysis and upscaling of ecological assessments, and assessment of resource criticality.
- Development of evaluation criteria for the environmental impact in LCA, especially for new components (products, building materials, etc.) or for new use cases as an interface to other professorships at the faculty / TU Darmstadt.
The research of the professorship should take on a linking function between the civil and environmental engineering sciences in order to further advance interdisciplinary topics and to consolidate them in the department or to open up new research areas for the entire TU Darmstadt. An excellent scientific curriculum vitae is expected, which already shows first achievements and clearly demonstrates the applicant's development potential. A willingness to participate in academic self-governance is required. A written teaching and research concept must be submitted; it should also address cooperation intentions in the department and at the university.
The assistant professorship is designated as a qualification professorship according to - 70 HessHG. Accordingly, the duration of the scientific activity during and after the doctorate should generally not exceed nine years or the activity after the doctorate should not exceed four years. This maximum duration may be extended if necessary in the case of children under the legal requirements of - 70 HessHG. Furthermore, applicants should have completed their doctorate at a university other than the TU Darmstadt or have worked scientifically outside of TU Darmstadt for at least two years after completing their doctorate.
The assistant professorship is initially limited to six years. Research and teaching performance during this time will be considered in the tenure review process, which may be initiated one and a half years before the end of the assistant professorship. Upon successful completion of the tenure review, the position immediate becomes a tenured W2 professorship. For further information, please see the tenure guidelines of TU Darmstadt. Remuneration follows the German W-Besoldung at level W2 Hessisches Besoldungsgesetz. A comparable employment relationship is possible.
