Our profile
TU Dortmund University comprises 17 departments in the natural and engineering
sciences as well as the humanities and social sciences and is a dynamic university
with a strong profile in research, teaching, promotion of young scientists and transfer.
The Institute of Music and Musicology at the Department of Arts and Sport Sciences
is one of the largest locations for music teacher training for all music teaching
professions in one of the densest and most diverse music landscapes in Europe. In
addition, the Institute offers the Bachelor's/Master's degree program in Music
Journalism in cooperation with the Institute of Journalism and is involved in the
interdisciplinary degree program in Cultural Analysis and Cultural Intermediation.
Profile of the professorship
You represent the area of historical musicology in research and further develop it with
international visibility. In doing so, you participate in research networks and
cooperations within and outside TU Dortmund University and are committed to
historical musicology in its full range and participate appropriately in the teaching
activities of the department, notably in the degree programs of Teacher Training for
Music, Music Journalism and the Master Cultural Analysis and Mediation.
Your qualifications
You have obtained a doctorate with above-average success and have acquired a post
- doctoral lecture qualification (Habilitation) or an equivalent qualification. You have
demonstrated your research excellence in the field covered by the professorship
through relevant publications in internationally recognized peer-reviewed venues.
desirable for research and teaching to take into account cultural studies perspectives
and a musical diversity that goes beyond the field of Western European Classical
Music. Additionally, you have the potential for teaching excellence and you are willing
to teach in German language and terminology in the medium term. Social and
leadership skills and the willingness to participate in academic self-administration
will complete your profile. Moreover, the recruitment requirements in Sections 36 and
37 of the North Rhine-Westphalia Higher Education Act (Gesetz über die Hochschulen
des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen, HG NRW) apply.
