As an Intern in Biomaterials in Biotech Research team, you will play a crucial role in our mission to protect the planet by developing materials for clean and closed material loops. You will have the opportunity to engage in hands-on tasks such as conducting experiments, analyzing data, and assisting in the research and development of innovative natural polymers-based solutions. Drawing on your theoretical background in polymer science, biotechnology, or applied chemistry, you will contribute to the design and optimization of experiments, while gaining valuable practical experience in a laboratory setting.

This role reports to Lucio D’Andrea, Head of Biotech Research, and has key stakeholder relationships with team members throughout the company. This role is based in Holm, our facility near Hamburg.

**Research and Laboratory Operations Support**
- Assist in ongoing experimental research aimed at developing materials for clean and closed material loops.
- Collect and organize experimental data for analysis by the team, maintaining accurate documentation of procedures, results, and observations.
- Contribute to the interpretation of results and draw meaningful conclusions to support ongoing research projects.
- Support the day-to-day operations of the laboratory, ensuring smooth functioning.
- Assist in equipment preparation, maintenance, and calibration as well as helping with the organization and management of laboratory supplies.

**Collaboration, Communication, and Learning**
- Collaborate effectively with researchers and team members, providing assistance and support as needed.
- Participate in discussions to share findings, contribute to ongoing research progress, and provide input based on observations.
- Contribute to reports and presentations by providing well-documented results and insights.
- Actively engage in continuous learning and stay updated with the latest advancements in material science, polymer science, biotechnology, and applied chemistry.

Please note that while the intern will primarily assist ongoing projects, there may be opportunities to propose ideas or solutions within the context of the existing research and development initiatives.

**Who you are**:

- Strong Theoretical Background: Solid knowledge in polymer science, biotechnology, or applied chemistry, enabling contributions to advanced materials research.
- Practical Laboratory Experience: Hands-on skills and technical expertise in working with (bio)polymers, with the ability to conduct experiments and follow protocols.
- Collaboration and Communication: Effective collaboration with researchers, strong communication skills for sharing findings, and fluency in English. German language proficiency is a plus.

We welcome undergrad students (after at least three semesters) or with a completed bachelor's or master's degree.

**Hiring Process**:
There will be three interview stages:

- Introduction call with Head of Biotech Research & Leads from the team - to share more about one.five, how we work & to dig into the day to day of the role more and answer any questions you may have for us
- Optional: If possible, meet our team in Holm - see our office & lab and have an in-person interview with Materials Engineering Lead
- Final interview with Head of Biotech Research to clarify last open questions and next steps of hiring process
