System integration for low-loss photonic couplings
Quantum computers promise to solve problems that cannot be solved by conventional computers and can help to overcome global challenges in important areas such as the environment, health and information. Photonic integrated circuits (PICs) will play an important key role in the realization of future quantum computer systems. However, there are still many research and development tasks to be completed in the field of fabrication and characterization of photonic components for the generation, distribution and manipulation of single photons on wafers and microchips. You will develop and research novel photonic devices based on models and simulations, implement them in designs and layouts, and manufacture and characterize the components with dedicated and automatic test setups in our facilities. YOUR TASKS
- Fabrication of photonic components and systems
- Development of low loss fiber to chip connections
- Construction of opto-electronic measurement setups and characterization of manufactured components
- Building spot-size converter and focus structures in thin films and embedded in substrates
- Participation in teaching, supervision of student works (project, bachelor and master thesis)
YOUR PROFILE
- Knowledge in the field of Microsystem Technology and Integrated Circuit Fabrication
- Knowledge in the field of Integrated and/or Free Space Optics
- Experience with computer-aided 3D modelling and Layout Editing
- Practical experience in Optical Metrology and Thin Film Characterization
- Experience with FEM and/or FDTD methods
- Ability to work independently in a scientific environment with ability to work in a team
