**“**Thermodynamic Modeling and Analysis of Phase Transitions**”**

(Head: Dr. B. Wagner) devoted to the topic **„Theory and Modelling of Electrochemical Systems“ starting** **as soon as possible.**

**The work tasks include**:

- Development, analysis, and implementation of discretization methods and solution algorithms for the transport of charged species with a focus on the coupling to other physical processes like light wave conduction, elasticity, electrolyte flow, and electrochemical reactions,
- Modeling of basic electrochemical systems with partial differential equations,
- Development of material models for electrolytes and electrodes,
- Development of validation strategies and validation of models using suitable experimental data,
- Systematic model simplification using asymptotic methods, e.g. derivation of effective boundary conditions, homogenization of microscopic models,
- Deepening existing and developing new collaborations with experimental research groups.

mit dem Themengebiet **„Theorie und Modellierung Elektrochemischer Systeme“ **zu besetzen.

Ausgehend von Grundprinzipien der Nichtgleichgewichtsthermodynamik wurde am WIAS ein Framework für die Modellierung und Simulation elektrochemischer Systeme entwickelt. Dieses wurde und wird an geeigneten Laborexperimenten validiert und findet Anwendung unter anderem bei der Modellierung von Batterien, Brennstoffzellen und Ionen-Kanälen. Der/die Kandidat*in soll die Weiterentwicklung dieses Frameworks und dessen Anwendung auf konkrete Systeme betreiben.

**Zu den Arbeitsaufgaben gehören**:

- Modellierung von grundlegenden elektrochemischen Systemen mit partiellen Differentialgleichungen,
- Weiterentwicklung von Materialmodellen für Elektrolyte und Elektroden,
- Entwicklung von Validierungsstrategien und Validierung der Modelle an geeigneten experimentellen Daten,
- Systematische Modellvereinfachung durch asymptotische Methoden, z.B. Herleitung effektiver Randbedingungen, Homogenisierung mikroskopischer Modelle
- Erschließung neuer Anwendungsfelder (Halbleiter-Galvanik, Na-Batterien, Elektrolyse/E-Fuels)
- Kooperation mit anderen Forschungsgruppen am WIAS, insbesondere bei der Entwicklung anwendungsnaher Softwarepakete und im Bereich der Optimierung
- Vertiefung bestehender und Ausprägung neuer Kooperationen zu experimentell arbeitenden Forschungsgruppen

**Wir suchen**: Kandidat*innen mit einem Doktorgrad im Fach Mathematik, wissenschaftliches Rechnen, theoretischer Physik oder verwandten Gebieten und in referierten Fachzeitschriften publizierten eigenen Forschungsleistungen. Erwartet werden tief gehende wissenschaftliche Erfahrungen in der Modellierung von elektrochemischen Systemen mit partiellen Differentialgleichungen sowie hohes Interesse an Anwendungen der Mathematik.
