We’re seeking an Accounting Officer in a Hybrid role based in Berlin, Fixed Term 2 year contract.

The Payroll Team manages all steps of the payroll cycle; to ensure efficient and compliant processes and dataflow as the bases for salaries and benefits and all related taxes and social security contributions. It monitors that payroll transactions are properly categorized according to German statutory tax requirements and in accordance with OSF Accounting policies. It also is steering the compliance and processes of engaged payroll provider and tax advisors. Finance and Payroll department is a group of skilled individuals, from diverse backgrounds and cultures. We support the organization’s mission, while keeping it compliant with regulatory bodies. The Payroll Team also work in partnership with other teams such as Legal and HR to ensure efficient and compliant processes and dataflow for the entity and employees.

This role works closely with the Payroll Supervisor on Finance and accounting matters, compiles, consolidates and analyses data including developing and managing audits and tax returns. They have comprehensive responsibility for the audit schedules and tax returns and social security contributions assigned. They will also assist Accounting Officers with advising staff on employee relevant payroll, accounting and HR policies and procedures.

In this role you will:
- Capture and process payroll changes (new employees, employees leaving, increases) and system upgrades in a timely and accurate manner in close alignment with internal and external partners- Ensure that all requested forms and analysis from official authorities are answered in a timely and accurate manner (employment and remuneration certificates, evaluations and analyses)- Use Financial Management Systems, Analysis and Control Monitors to analyse data and track progress, reports variances using established finance systems and protocols- Ensure compliance with applicable laws (labour law, social security and income tax law) internal regulations and policies- Initiate, formulate and implement new processes, procedures and/or systems that cut across multiple organizational units. Develop and implement change management strategies to engage key stakeholders.- Manage and design small to medium projects with limited supervision; effectively manage time, budget and stakeholders- Conduct research on a specific topic and make recommendations on how best to proceed- Identify, resolve and manage compliance issues that require a response at a policy level, and may involve the design, modification, review of compliance systems.

We are looking for:
- University or equivalent degree (Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, human resources or a relevant field; professional certification e.g. CPP, CPM/Payroll and/or Financial Accountant, HR Manager/Controller is an advantage) Or significant work experience.- Comprehensive knowledge in all payroll and employment related regulations (taxation, social security and others)- Comprehensive knowledge of payroll related accounting tasks (reconciliation, annual closing, financial audits)- Experience in a fast-paced environment, troubleshooting, follow through on payroll-cycle tasks and projects, strong attention to detail, adherence to strict deadlines- Excellent analytical skills, proficiency in MS Office and cloud based platforms, experience with internet research and database management- Comprehensive Knowledge of DATEV, Workday, IT Systems- Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills, ability to show discretion and handle confidential issues- Critical thinking skills, solutions-oriented individual- Strong understanding of cultural differences, proven ability to build relationships with people from diverse backgrounds
