**Our Profile**:
The group of Energy Systems Engineering is working on the energetic and ecological assessment and optimization of industrial production and energy systems by developing computational models and by using Life Cycle Assessment. Industrial energy systems account for around 17% of greenhouse gas emissions in Germany. Therefore, a transformation of the industrial energy supply is required. For a successful transformation, the electrification of heating and cooling demands in combination with thermal storage is particularly promising: when renewables are readily available, electricity can be converted by (high-temperature) heat pumps or compression chillers and stored for later usage. In this way, the economy, environmental compatibility and reliability of energy systems can be increased. Due to the complexity of industrial energy systems, optimization methods are used to determine their optimal design and operation. Optimization methods require mathematical models of the energy system components. We offer an open-minded, motivated team with close supervision opportunities. You will help to develop optimization methods for defossilization and increased efficiency of industrial energy systems. **Your Profile**:
- You study Mechanical Engineering/ Industrial Engineering/ CES
- You are interested in modeling and mathematical optimization in Python
- You have a strong interest in the design of defossilized industrial energy systems
- You work independently and goal-oriented
**Your Duties and Responsibilities**:
To support ongoing research, you will first familiarize yourself with modeling and optimizing energy systems in Python. You will then model selected energy system components such as high-temperature heat pumps by determining technical, economic and ecological parameters. You will then model the components in an optimization framework developed by the LTT. You will also investigate the optimal design and operation of industrial low-emission energy systems.
**What We Offer**:
The position is to be filled at the earliest possible date and offered for a fixed term of 3 months.
An employment beyond the limited term is desired.
This is a part-time contract position.
The standard weekly hours will be 8-9 hours.
The salary is based on the RWTH Guidelines for Student and Graduate Assistants.
The position corresponds to a pay grade of 12,00 € per hour.
