The WDR Big Band Cologne is one of the leading large jazz ensembles. The band performs in a multitude of genres and works with well-known personalities who dominate today's international jazz scene.

**Your responsibilities**:

- You will perform as a jazz bassist in an Grammy award-winning Big Band
- You will perform, produce or concert daily at the WDR studio, in the Cologne area, as well as on international stages with leading world-class composers, arrangers and band leaders, alongside instrumental and vocal guest artists from the international jazz scene

**Your Qualifications**:

- You are an upright double bass player who also has first class professional abilities on electric bass guitar (main emphasison double bass)
- You possess a strong understanding of and passion for the jazz tradition
- Moreover, you have extensive experience in big band performance, along with comprehensive knowledge of the big band tradition (all styles required)
- Proficiency in sight-reading is essential
- You are a versatile musician who is able to adapt quickly to high pressure situations
- Furthermore, you are willing to pass your knowledge to the next generation through music education programs
- We expect the ability to fit seamlessly into an existing artistic and social structure and thus to see oneself as an integral part of a functioning musical collective

**Important**:
Selected applicants will be contacted for further information and will be invited to come to Cologne and play with the band.

**Application**:

- 15-20 minutes of audio/video recordings of your choice that display your best playing. Please hand in significant snippets. Whole concerts or long tunes are not required
- Submitted material should show you supporting other instrumentalists (walking/grooving), as well as soloing. We would like to hear acoustic and electric bass playing in your submitted material
- Please include some solo playing (alone, without other musicians) on double bass (e.g. bop head/walking/melody with bow, etc.)
- Please make sure that all recordings have a representative audio quality and any links are working properly
