alcemy was founded to reduce the massive CO2 footprint of the cement and concrete industry. Concrete is humanity's second most used material by volume and is responsible for around 8% of global CO2 emissions.

We can change this We leverage machine learning to provide smart production control software to the cement and concrete supply chain to improve efficiency and allow for the production of low-carbon cement and concrete at large scale. Our software is used 24/7 in cement and concrete plants to optimize production and reduce carbon emissions today. We are currently enabling our customers to save more than 100 000 tons of CO2 emissions a year and we aim to save 100 million tons per year in 2030.

The Opportunity
- You’ll join us as the head of engineering in our Solutions Engineering team, who is responsible for integrating our products at cement and concrete customers, and you will guide our infrastructure and DevOps team as an interim engineering manager until our next funding round.
- Take accountability of our solutions engineering department, guide architectural decisions and ensure high software quality standards.
- Help navigate the challenging trade off in solutions engineering between customer deadline driven project work as well as internal product and tooling development.
- Guide feature engineering, refactoring, and planning together with the product manager and the team.
- Contribute to the product vision and roadmap for the years to come.
- Shape alcemy's engineering organization and culture beyond individual teams.
- We’re a small start-up, so you’ll also have the opportunity to explore and work in other areas. For example, a team member learned how to install sensors on a truck himself or another was eager to organize events at the next team week.

**Requirements**:
You’d be a great fit if
- You care about climate change, are happy to really dig deep into cement and concrete production and look for a long-term commitment
- You are well versed in designing scalable software teams
- You are well versed in designing and improving processes and facilitating communication between teams and stakeholders
- You are passionate about people leadership. You strive to build an engaged and purpose driven team while owning topics like goal setting, evaluating performance, creating development plans etc.
- You are comfortable communicating with external stakeholders and customers from industries heavy industries
- You are business fluent in German and English

Even better
- You have experience with some of the following: Machine Learning in the process industry, IoT hardware, IoT device management
- You have lead software or hardware integration projects of bigger scopes in a B2B setting, for example the implementation of an SAP system, the introduction and role of new sensor technology, or large scale implementations of soft sensor

Tech Stack
- Python for everything in our back-end. Our RESTful APIs are built using FastAPI with auto-generated Swagger UI documentation and OpenAPI schema. Our database schema is defined using SQLAlchemy and our data models using pydantic. We test our code using pytest and write modern, type-hinted Python checked with mypy. Number crunching and analyses are done using pandas, numpy, and sklearn.
- We store our data in PostgreSQL and our infrastructure runs on AWS managed by Terraform and using Kubernetes.
- Internal Dashboards and analyses are built with Streamlit and ad-hoc analyses are run in Jupyter Notebooks
- We use DSA telemetry boxes (VCG) to connect to our IoT sensors mounted on concrete trucks, IoT data is ingested via AWS S3 and Timestream.
