**The Institute for Experimental Pathology** based at the Center for Inflammation Research at the University of Münster is offering a position for a project focused on computationally defining the role of neutrophils in development and ageing, initially limited to 3 years.

**Full-time**
**Salary according to TV-L E13**

**The Institute and Project**:
The Institute for Experimental Pathology is led by Oliver Soehnlein. His work focuses on the importance of neutrophils in acute and chronic inflammation with specific focus on atherosclerosis and its complications such as myocardial infarction and neointimal hyperplasia. Central to the group's mechanistic understanding of how neutrophils promote chronic, sterile inflammation is its interplay with antigen presenting cells, predominantly macrophages. It is a key feature of the group's work to unveil thus far unknown mechanistic details which are then translated towards innovative preclinical intervention strategies, some of which have been patented. In recent years we have made efforts to expand our portfolio to more basic questions of neutrophil biology with specific focus on their interaction network and developmental aspects. Our group is highly interdisciplinary, international, and uses state-of-the-art techniques spanning a broad range from immunology, cell and molecular biology to modelling and bioinformatics. The institute is embedded in national and international consortia on cardiovascular inflammation (more information here; here; here; here; here). This project is part of the European Doctoral Network PRAETORIAN, a consortium of 10 doctoral students across 5 European countries aimed at developing both understanding of and therapeutics for treatment of sepsis.

The Institute for Experimental Pathology is part of the Center for Molecular Biology of Inflammation, adjacent to the Max-Planck Institute for Molecular Biomedicine and the newly built Multiscale Imaging Center thus ensuring lively scientific exchange with leaders in the field.

**Your profile**:

- University degree with a MSc (or equivalent) in biology, biomedicine, or life sciences
- Profound interest and at least moderate experience in the computational analysis of high-throughput data (e.g. RNA-seq), proven by a completed MSc thesis project (or equivalent) with a relavant focus
- Confident knowledge of at least one programming language commonly used in data analysis / bioinformatics (R, Python) and at least basic knowledge of the Unix command line
- Independent, reliable and structured way of working with a strong sense of quality
- Flexibility, high team and communication skills and above-average motivation
- Ability to independently establish new methods and to independently and critically reflect on scientific data
- Very good written and spoken English language skills, German skills are not required
