The position is designed to support the UNESCO chair’s objectives and engagement and enables further qualification in thematically related fields. This is an exciting opportunity for combining research, teaching and training, as well as community engagement and communication. The position will suit individuals interested in questioning current narratives about climate change in the quest for social resilience and finding effective ways of exploring, transferring and disseminating different forms of knowledge.
**Responsibilities**:
Duties primarily include research. Research associates may also pursue independent research and further academic qualifications.
- self-responsible managing an interdisciplinary collaboration network of small island scholars
- developing innovative course syllabi and teaching material on societal climate change issues on small islands
- exploring new ways of training and disseminating climate change action at the local (community) level
- developing and implementing an approach to critically monitor the activating approaches chosen, the co-production of knowledge in different contexts and the conditions for successful knowledge transfer
- critically evaluating and optimising transfer activities in the field of climate change action
- integrating the UNESCO chair’s work in the Centre of Excellence CLICCS at the University of Hamburg
- publication of results in peer-reviewed journals and presentation at scientific conferences
**Profile**:
A university degree in a relevant field.
- experience in self-responsible and independent research in a field of societal climate research in disciplines such as Geography, or in a field dealing with climate change issues from a societal perspective
- very good oral and written communication skills in English and German
- experience and good organisational skills of workshops, conferences and international meetings
- good teamwork abilities
- willingness to independently and self-responsible support the chair holder in her UNESCO networking work and engagement
Additional skills and knowledge
- experience in small island studies and in climate change adaptation processes
- experience in organising and managing workshops, scientific meetings and conferences
- experiences in developing innovative educational material and course syllabus
- experiences in scientific publications and editing academic and/or non-academic literature
