Duties include academic services in the project named above. Research associates may also pursue independent research and further academic qualifications.

The core responsibility of the research associate is to pursue their dissertation project within the overall comparative research profile of the Cluster of Excellence “Understanding Written Artefacts”, and to contribute to the collaborative research activities of the Cluster.

**Profile**:
A university degree in a relevant field.

A degree in Assyriology or Ancient Near Easter Studies is preferred, ideally with a focus on the study of archival/documentary texts in ancient Mesopotamia. Furthermore
- expertise in manuscriptology
- experience in dealing with ancient written artefacts
- very good knowledge of written and spoken English
- language skills in Akkadian, preferably also in Sumerian
- experience in reading cuneiform
- experience in interdisciplinary work
- ability to work independently as a researcher as well as to work in a team
