Fish Facility Supervisor

EMBL Fish Facility (FF) houses different fish species used in scientific research. Under the direction of the Head of Laboratory Animal Resources (LAR), the FF supervisor oversees daily operations, equipment and facilities performance, animal husbandry and care, environmental enrichment, provides technical and experimental support to researchers, and ensure that EMBL/LAR policies and FF standard operating procedures (SOPs) are effectively implemented.

Your role

**Duties and responsibilities**:
**_ Fish Facility operations_**
- Oversee daily operations and ensure practices and processes comply with applicable regulations and policies.
- Responsible for the daily care, feeding and husbandry of all fish strains.
- Maintain fish strains according to approved SOPs, including preparation and conditioning of supplies, animal import/export, and process validation and quality control where needed.
- Oversee equipment operation, report malfunction of FF equipment and installations. Contact outside vendors or appropriate EMBL personnel for equipment/facility repair.
- Ensure adequate quantities of relevant stocks (reagents, consumables, etc.) are available at all times in the assigned areas.
- Order supplies and consumables as needed. Manage facility supplies, obtaining and verifying quotations, placing orders, keeping records and ensuring the FF is well stocked.
- Handle short-term distribution of resources (e.g. assignment of animal housing space, shared equipment, reagents, animals, etc.).
- Oversee the receipt of animals in quarantine.
- Collect and maintain census information.
- Participate in the execution of the Animal Health Surveillance program (sampling, coordinate with lab, handling samples, etc.) as needed under the supervision of EMBL attending veterinarian.
- Manage FF Budget.
- Manage databases and records consistent with existing resources (i.e. aquatics database, standard operating procedures, experimental protocols, etc.)

**_ Organization of the team_**
- Overall supervision of FF LAR technicians including scheduling of work and support in FF

You have
- At least 3-years experience in the husbandry and care of fish.
- Experience working with aquatic animal models in a scientific research environment.
- Functions A/D (as per EU Directive 2010/63/EU) species-specific (aquatic animals).
- Proficiency performing experiments according to protocols/procedures.
- Experience overseeing a team.
- Good command of English is mandatory, knowledge of German is a plus.
