**“Numerical Mathematics and Scientific Computing“**

(Head: Prof. Dr. Volker John) devoted to the topic **“Numerical methods and simulation techniques for the transport of charged particles“, **starting **as soon as possible.**

Understanding of fundamental processes in electronics, electrochemistry and biology involves the modeling of the transport of charged particles in an electric field which itself depends on the charged particle distribution in space. WIAS is an internationally leading institution in the field of modeling, analysis and numerical simulation of partial differential equations describing these and other transport phenomena.

**The work tasks include**:

- Development, analysis and implementation of discretization methods and solution algorithms for the transport of charged species with a focus on the coupling to other physical processes like light wave conduction, elasticity, electrolyte flow, electrochemical reactions.
- Cooperative development and maintenance of open source software implemented in the C++ and Julia programming languages

mit dem Themengebiet **„Numerische Methoden und Simulationstechniken für den Transport geladener Teilchen“ **zu besetzen.

Das Verständnis fundamentaler Prozesse in der Elektronik, der Elektrochemie und der Biologie basiert unter anderem auf der Modellierung des Transports geladener Teilchen in einem elektrischen Feld, welche seinerseits von deren räumlichen Verteilung abhängt. Das WIAS ist eine der international führenden Institutionen im Bereich der Modellierung, Analyse und der numerischen Simulation von partiellen Differentialgleichungen für solche und andere Transportphänomene.

**Zu den Arbeitsaufgaben gehören**:

- Entwicklung, Analysis und Implementation von Diskretisierungsverfahren und Lösungsalgorithmen für den Transport geladener Spezies mit dem Schwerpunkt auf der Kopplung an andere physikalische Prozesse wie Lichtwellenleitung, Elastizität, Elektrolytströmung oder elektrochemische Reaktionen.
- Kooperative Entwicklung und Pflege in den Programmiersprachen C++ und Julia implementierter Open-Source-Software.
- Mitarbeit in Anwendungsprojekten mit akademischen und industriellen Partnern.

**Wir suchen**: Kandidat*innen mit einem Doktorgrad im Fach Mathematik, wissenschaftliches Rechnen, theoretische Physik oder verwandten Gebieten. Erwartet werden Erfahrungen in effizienten numerischen Methoden für PDEs und gute Programmierkenntnisse (z.B. C++, Julia), sowie hohes Interesse an Anwendungen der Mathematik und an der Entwicklung wissenschaftlicher Software.
