**A Snapshot of Your Day**
In the course of the energy transition, the optimization of high-voltage cable connections is of critical importance. Traditional calculation methods tend to overestimate eddy current losses, leading to an over-dimensioning of cable systems. More precise calculations using FEM can help reduce cable cross-sections, thereby saving costs and resources. This aligns with Siemens Energy's commitment to sustainability.
This bachelor's / master's thesis aims to conduct a detailed comparison between the calculation method according to IEC 60287 and the Finite Element Method (FEM) using COMSOL Multiphysics to analyze eddy current losses in high voltage cables.
**How You’ll Make an Impact**
- Carrying out literature research on the topic
- Creation of cable models according to IEC 60287
- Modelling of the cables using FEM with COMSOL Multiphysics
- Comparison of the calculation results and performance of a parameter study
- Documentation of the process and the models in the final report
**What You Bring**
- Knowledge in electrical engineering and heat transfer
- Experience with FEM calculation tools, preferably COMSOL Multiphysics
- Experience with calculation tools such as Matlab or Python
- Ability to present calculation results in report form
- Personally, you are characterized by a high willingness to learn and a quick grasp of new concepts
