**Tasks & responsibilities**
- In your new role, you will devise and implement project-specific patent strategies for Boehringer Ingelheim’s products and services as team member patents within international, cross-functional research and development teams, primarily within the Immunology & Respiratory therapeutic area.
- You will manage global patent portfolios and defend Boehringer Ingelheim’s patent rights in patent office and court proceedings, including oppositions and appeals
- You will be involved in legal opinion preparation, safeguarding of Boehringer Ingelheim’s freedom to operate, and contributing towards conflict management strategies
- Furthermore, you will support defense of the business strategy of the company in litigation and pre-litigation matters, in oppositions and nullity suits
- You will secure Boehringer Ingelheim’s interests in licensing and collaboration projects, by advising on and negotiating IP concepts and drafting IP clauses in contracts
- You will pro-actively identify patenting opportunities in product development, maintenance and optimization projects
**Requirements**:
- Ability to handle complex projects and to work in a matrix organization and within interdisciplinary teams
- Understanding of the interface between patent law and commercial business
- Ability to identify and solve (complex) legal questions with a high degree of autonomy and professional authority
- Efficient self-management and ability to handle high workloads
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English with experience presenting and concisely communicating complex information to all levels of an organization
