**Head of Translational Medicine (M/F/d)**

**YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Work closely with and proactively support the Head Precision Medicine Early Clinical Development (supervisor), the Heads in Preclinical Research as well as the Heads of the respective Early and Late Development functions
- Be responsible for leading a team of medical experts for the early clinical phase of projects within Research & Early Development preMED across various therapeutic areas with a special focus on Precision Medicine
- Be in charge of developing Precision Medicine/Translational plans for each project in the early stage of the clinical development in close alignment with the respective Global Project Leader
- Build and grow a center of disease knowledge in the relevant indications within the group as well as be responsible to progress early clinical programs from D3-Proof of Concept by being the dedicated driver (M/F/d) for the clinical portfolio to reach Proof of Concept
- Closely interact with the Biomarker and Disease understanding group and the Pharmacometrics group to define the best use of biomarkers for the therapeutic area to implement optimized development plans to facilitate Precision Medicine approaches
- Drive the initiation and continuous growth of the ‘Precision Medicine-network’ across the Precision Medicine Early Clinical Development organization with a special focus on training and development of Precision Medicine expertise for all colleagues
- Be familiar with all drug discovery, early and late stage development projects within the therapeutic area to provide input with regard to translational development capabilities and programs as well as ensure optimal utilization of resources and appropriate strategies to make go/no go decisions on programs in a timely and cost effective way and participate in Review and Licensing Committees and provide strategic licensing input
- Present the projects within the area externally and build a network of key opinion leaders to support development of projects

**WHO YOU ARE**
- University degree (MD or MD/PhD) combined with a strong scientific background in a relevant discipline as well as long-term working experience in precision medicine/translational medicine in pharmaceutical/biotech industry and academic R&D
- Demonstrated expertise in drug development and a strong track record of accomplishments in drug discovery and/or development across a variety of therapeutic areas
- Ability to comprehend and interpret clinical data and relate them to the clinical setting as well as proven understanding of the complexities of clinical development and especially of the translational phase from discovery to Proof of Concept
- Experience from both small and large molecules R&D preferred
- Proven successful leadership of a high performance team
- Ability to effectively challenge the status quo and underlying assumptions to uncover fresh innovations, with ability to drive ideas into results
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken; command of a second major European language is an asset

**The position can be either filled in Wuppertal or Berlin.**
