**Job description**:
The built environment is a critical solutions provider for a resilient and zero emissions future. Especially in cities, which are key actors for ambitious climate action. The project Leading Urban Climate Action advises the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) in the areas of subnational climate action and infrastructure development, buildings and building materials. The goal of the project is to improve the conditions for climate-smart investments as well as implementation of nationally determined contributions at the subnational level in developing and emerging countries. This is done through the expansion of strong partnerships and initiatives, international agenda-setting, and the development, dissemination, and scaling of innovative approaches. The latter will be achieved primarily together with existing initiatives and projects of the International Climate Initiative (IKI) focusing on relevant partner countries of BMWK.

**Your tasks**:

- Provide expert advisory services in the field of energy efficient buildings and sustainable construction (materials)
- Conduct research, draft technical papers, strategy and implementation concepts, as well as position papers and speaking points
- Support the conceptual development and strengthening of initiatives supported by the BMWK in the field of buildings and construction
- Follow and assess international expert discussions on the topics of buildings and sustainable construction (materials)
- Identify and/or co-develop approaches and instruments in the thematic field of energy-efficient buildings and sustainable construction (materials)
- Strengthening the cooperation and coordination of relevant partners including existing IKI projects, in particular analysis/identification of synergy potentials, scaling options and (strategic) exchange formats
- Management of consultants and external service providers

**Your profile**:

- University degree in the field of architecture, energy (efficiency), urban planning, climate, environment or other studies with relevance for sustainability in buildings
- Long-standing work experience in/or with relevance to the buildings and construction sector in the context of international cooperation
- Several years of relevant professional experience in working with multi-actor partnerships, preferably gained in developing or emerging countries is an asset
- Several years of work experience with urban actors (e.g. city networks, city administrations) is an asset
- Experience in the field of policy advice is an asset
- Profound knowledge of international energy and climate challenges and opportunities in the area of built environment is required including sustainable buildings and construction (materials)
- Strong organisational, planning and self-management competences, ability to deal with multiple tasks simultaneously, solve problems, meet deadlines and maintain a high quality of work
- Team player, proactive and curious self-starter
- Business fluent in English and German

**Notes**:
This job is suited to a full or a part-time position.

**There is an option to extend for a further year analogous to a follow-up order.**

The willingness for frequent business trips is required.
