Starting from 01.01.2024, the Coastal Research Center is looking for a Senior Research Associate (m/
f/d) in the field of Coastal and Ocean Engineering.

Senior Research Associate (M/F/d) in the field of
Coastal / Ocean Engineering
**(full-time - permanent)**

The position is to be filled on a permanent basis. The Coastal Research Center is a joint research unit
of Technische Universität Braunschweig and Leibniz University Hannover with a 40-year successful
history in collaborative research. The Coastal Research Center has a profound and demonstrated
expertise in large-scale experimental research, from classic coastal protection works (i.e., dikes,
revetments), nature-based solutions to coastal protection and climate adaptation (i.e., salt marshes,
dunes, nourishments), coastal dynamics and sediment transport, to offshore wind engineering
including scour dynamics and protection, offshore renewable energy (tidal, wave), offshore aquaculture
(i.e., shellfish longline farms) to natural hazard assessment (tsunami, extreme wind waves).

The Coastal Research Center operates one of the largest wave current flumes worldwide (GWK+), with
unique large-scale components such as a combined wave-current generation system, dynamic tidal
water level adjustment, a 32 m long and up to 6 m deep pit, and the largest and most powerful wave
maker to allows for wave heights of up to 3 m. A 1:10 reduced-scale sister-flume (miniGWK+) allows
faster access and comparison experiments in preparation of large-scale experiments. The Coastal
Research Center’s portfolio of additional experimental facilities that is marketed through the center is
long: 2 large wave basins with wave/wave-current capabilities, a 90 m long tsunami flume, 2 mid-scale
wind-wave flumes, a race-track flume, a 32 m long wave-current saltwater flume, an arctic climate cold
room with wave-current flume and educational facilities enabling teaching and practical classes.

The post will be located at the campus Marienwerder, of Leibniz University Hannover, Hannover,
Germany. The advertised role will join into a collegial lead of the Coastal Research Center. The position
will act as a crucial link between the university institutes, the board of directors and the research staff at
the Coastal Research Center. The advertised role comprises elements of research, teaching and
administration.

- You will publish research findings and participate in national and international conferences
- You will be involved in teaching at the University (preparation and implementation of courses as

well as supervision of students’ work).

Your Qualifications:

- You have a Master's degree (or equivalent) and doctorate in the field of Coastal / Ocean

Engineering
- You have very good knowledge of the German and English language
- You have experience in experimental modelling in the field of Coastal / Ocean Engineering
- You are flexible, can perform under pressure and work well in a team.
