The IZW is seeking to appoint a

**Bioinformatician (f/m/div) in full-time.**

**Responsibilities include**:

- Developing pipelines to work with high-throughput sequencing data with long and short read lengths.
- Developing pipelines to work with omics data.
- Developing templates for the storage and management of big data sets compatible with FAIR standards.
- Assisting staff and students in all departments with bioinformatics analyses.
- Coordinating bioinformatics training of staff and students with bioinformaticians in individual departments (particularly Dept of Evolutionary Genetics, Dept of Wildlife Diseases).
- Contributing to the maintenance and administration of linux servers.

**Requirements**:

- A Master/Diploma of Science or PhD in bioinformatics or related disciplines;
- Broad experience to work with genomic, transcriptomic, epigenomic data and bioinformatics databases;
- Excellent programming and scripting skills (e.g. in bash, Python, Perl, R, Java, C++);
- High proficiency in linux systems;
- Ability to speak and write in English.

**Advantageous skills**:

- Experience of working with non-model systems;
- Knowledge of and experience with statistical analysis;
- Working experience in a scientific institution;
- Ability to work independently, but also to integrate in a group and with scientists in other departments;
- An interest in the conservation and biology of wildlife species, particularly wild mammals;
- A background in evolutionary biology and theory.

- Free admission to the Tierpark (current agreement between Leibniz-IZW and Tierpark Berlin) from Monday to Friday.

The position will be preferably filled by the **1**st** July 2024** and is** initially limited to 3 years**.
