**Description**

The research group of Prof. Dr. Andrew Straw (Department of Neurobiology and Behavior, Institute for Biology I, Faculty of Biology, University of Freiburg) is looking for a person with a completed PhD in neuroscience or a related field such as biology, animal behavior, physics, computer science, or electrical engineering, and demonstrated interest in insect neuroethology to start on or after 1 May 2023.

The position is initially limited to 2 years with further funding possible. Remuneration is according to TV-L E13.

The position allows substantial freedom and support to develop one’s own career profile. The person will integrate into one of the following ongoing research focus areas within the field of insect neuroethology:

- Physiological recordings of _Drosophila_ during navigation behavior using genetically encoded calcium indicators and two photon microscopy for _in vivo_ imaging in restrained animals or a custom tracking epifluorescent microscope for recording Calcium activity in freely walking flies.
- Investigation of the molecular, cellular and circuit mechanisms by which neonicotinoid insecticides affect insect behavior using _Drosophila_ as a model and with interest on the applicability to pollinators and other insect species.
- Investigation of the behavioral algorithms bees use for navigation using state of the art bee tracking systems.

Multiple options to develop a career profile are possible and will be supported. These include: conducting one’s own research, helping to shape collaborative proposals, designing outreach activities, participation in scientific and management training courses, assistance in planning and guiding student projects.

There is a teaching obligation of 4 SWS. As the teaching may be done in the German language, priority will be given to applicants able to teach in German.
