Full-time and temporary
New medicines for treating tuberculosis are urgently needed, particularly in developing countries. The spread of antibiotic-resistant M. tuberculosis (Mtb) strains results in a critical shortage of effective medications for treatment. In order to counteract this trend, Evotec collaborates with the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI) and its Saarbrücken-based branch, the Helmholtz Institute for Pharmaceutical Research Saarland (HIPS). Located at the interface of academic and industrial research we offer a highly interdisciplinary work environment for Mtb drug discovery and development
Your key responsibilities:
- Initiate and carry out isolation projects for anti-Mtb active natural products originating from our droplet microfluidics platform
- Support high throughput screening for Mtb active natural products
- Work collaboratively with colleagues at different Evotec sites as well as with our HIPS/Evotec team in Saarbruecken
- Deliver accurate and timely data to profile isolated Mtb active compounds
- Meet high standards for quality and turn-around time for bacteriological tests
Your ideal qualifications:
- A PhD in microbiology, bacteriology or pharmacology with a background in natural products drug discovery
- Experience with working at high throughput scales, including the setting up and running of automated workflows
- Experience in the fermentation of microorganism and the isolation of natural products is essential
- Highly motivated, self-organized and the ability to work in cross-functional and cross-site teams
- Good written and spoken communication skills in English is required, German is a plus
