The Faculty of Humanities and Cultural Studies at the University of Passau invites applications for the tenured civil-service post of

You will represent the subject of English didactics in research and teaching and for all contexts where English teachers are trained, be it for a formal school setting or non-school education. Your research interests will be focused on questions of foreign-language acquisition, while paying special attention to current areas of language and literature didactics or the didactics of intercultural and transcultural learning. They should be compatible with research projects of the University of Passau in linguistics, literary studies, cultural studies or media studies as well as empirical teachingâlearning research and/or research on second- or foreign-language acquisition. A focus on digital teaching and learning would be desirable. Applicants should have an excellent research track record, including in international projects, where possible.
Duties include teaching and carrying out examinations in English subject didactics in current and future Teacher Education Programmes, bachelor's and master's degree programmes, including setting and carrying out state examinations in English subject didactics; furthermore, participation in academic self-governance and the supervision of students during practice teaching at schools. University teaching competency and a willingness to become involved in the Teacher Education Centre (ZLF) are expected. You will also be expected to teach classes in English. Experience in the acquisition and implementation of third-party funded projects as well as active participation in interdisciplinary third-party funded projects and international exchange programmes would be desirable. Cooperation with other subject didactics departments at the Faculty of Humanities and Cultural Studies and adjacent disciplines is required in view of the faculty's interdisciplinary profile. Finally, you should provide evidence of at least three years of teaching experience at schools or comparable educational institutions after obtaining the qualification for work as an English teacher at a state school.

The Faculty of Humanities and Cultural Studies is a research-strong, dynamic faculty that stands out for the interdisciplinary and international nature of its research and teaching as well as its wide range of degree programmes and courses. The subject areas cultural and media studies, humanities and Catholic theology are characterised by thematic, methodological and spatial diversity in teaching as well as in basic and applied research.
The successful candidate will be educated to doctoral level and have demonstrated both pedagogical aptitude and academic excellence, whereby the latter is generally established on the basis of the quality of his or her doctoral research and subsequent academic achievements. He or she will, furthermore, possess the German formal postdoctoral habilitation qualification or an equivalent body of academic achievements garnered whilst employed at an institution of higher education, for instance as a juniorprofessor or in a comparable position with a different title (e.g. assistant professor or lecturer), insofar as the duties and qualification profile correspond to those of a juniorprofessor position, or by leading a junior research group under the conditions specified in Art. 98(10) sentence 5 of the Bavarian Higher Education Innovation Act (BayHIG); the habilitation-equivalent achievements may also have been attained outside the higher education system. In accordance with Art. 60(3) sentence 1 BayHIG, candidates must not be more than 52 years of age at the time of their appointment.
