We seek an experienced Senior Backend Engineer to take charge of our backend systems' design, development, and upkeep, ensuring they meet high standards of robustness, scalability, and security. Working closely with cross-functional teams, including frontend developers, product managers, and designers, you will play a pivotal role in delivering top-notch software solutions that propel our company forward. This role will report directly to our Backend Lead.


We operate as a close-knit team where every engineer is encouraged to contribute significantly to our success. We value independent thinking and innovative problem-solving skills, especially when tackling complex challenges. Our current team consists of a Senior Full-Stack Engineer, a Junior Frontend Engineer, a Product Designer, a Technical Product Manager, and a Business Lead. We are also in the process of adding another Full-Stack Engineer to our team. Looking ahead, we envision one of our Senior Engineers transitioning into an engineering lead role, further solidifying our team's leadership structure.


Current tech stack:

  • Node.js running TypeScript code in Docker containers
  • MongoDB and Redis for our data
  • ethers.js for communication with the blockchains
  • Github, Kubernetes, AWS and CloudFlare for our GitOps CD chain


What you’ll do

  • Leading Development: Take charge of designing, developing, and maintaining backend systems and APIs, ensuring they align with business objectives and user requirements.
  • Scalability and Robustness: Architect and implement scalable and robust backend solutions capable of handling increasing user loads and evolving business demands.
  • Code Quality Assurance: Maintain high coding standards, conduct thorough code reviews, and enforce best practices to enhance code maintainability and readability.
  • Performance Optimization: Identify performance bottlenecks and optimize code and algorithms to enhance system performance and efficiency.
  • Monitoring and Issue Resolution: Implement monitoring and debugging tools to proactively identify and resolve issues, ensuring high system availability and reliability.
  • Testing: Develop and maintain comprehensive test suites, including unit tests, integration tests, and end-to-end tests, to ensure the reliability and functionality of backend systems.
  • Mentorship: Provide guidance and mentorship to junior developers, fostering their growth and development of technical skills within the team.
  • Problem Solving: Analyze complex technical problems and propose effective solutions to address them, leveraging expertise in backend development.
  • Documentation: Document code, APIs, and technical processes to facilitate knowledge sharing within the team and support the onboarding process for new developers.


What makes a good candidate:


  • Location: Must be based in the EMEA region to align with team and project requirements.
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong expertise in TypeScript is essential for success in this role.
  • Professional Experience: Demonstrated experience in a similar role, preferably as a senior or lead developer.
  • Database and Caching: Understanding of Document Databases and Caching mechanisms is advantageous.
  • Software Design and Architecture: Proficiency in software design principles and architecture is required.
  • Testing Knowledge: Deep understanding of testing frameworks and principles to ensure code quality.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Excellent communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and analytical skills are essential for effective team dynamics.
  • Adaptability to Technology: Passion for exploring and evaluating new technologies, along with the ability to suggest improvements.
  • Language Skills: Strong verbal and written English skills for effective communication with team members and stakeholders.
  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or related field is preferred.
  • Blockchain Experience: Previous experience in the blockchain space and technical understanding of the EVM ecosystem (or other ecosystems) is advantageous.
  • Smart Contract Development: Some experience with smart contract development would be beneficial.
