Job Purpose

Controls & Operability Engineer is accountable for the design, test and validation of superior control technologies focusing on load reducing features, safety and integrity of the machine as well as performance enhancements features, ensuring a stable and robust wind turbine.


Also accountable for Development of features, Test cases, Testing and Supporting loads integrated testing. Maintaining strict configurations and parameters of the wind turbines.


Key Responsibilities


  • Develop matrix to assess turbine operability during design and productionize the matrix assessment.
  • Ability to resolve field issues related to operation and controls from existing fleet.
  • Integrate lessons learned from existing fleet into new product design, driving reduction in MTBT.
  • Experience in integrating new technology into product development, should have experience in integrating advanced technologies in controls and operability to enable product meeting CTQs, such as cost, performance, and availability.
  • Ability to come up with controller-based solutions to improve wind turbine performance, increase availability and reduce loads while making sure the turbine is stable and robust.
  • Understand system level requirement for a wind turbine design and translate into controller’s requirement.
  • Ability to drive design to quality issues related to turbine operation – DFMEA, design review process, prototype testing.
  • Understanding of design influencing parameters for different wind turbine sub systems and arrive at optimum configurations and meeting product cost performance.
  • Drive LCOE reduction Year Over Year through advanced dynamic and safety control technologies.
  • Continuously benchmark competition’s technology and ensure technology roadmap is ahead competition.
  • Come up with turbine safety architecture.
  • Collaborate with other functions and team to solve challenges seen on wind turbine design and fleet issues and drive innovative solutions in area of expertise.
  • Mentor and coach team members on turbine operation and controller methodologies.


Desired Profile

  • BE or B.Tech / M.E or M.Tech / PhD in Controls Engineering or Equivalent with 8+ yrs of relevant experience.
  • Must have experience in product and wind turbine control technologies including hardware, sensors and software.
  • Must have experience in software languages and methods and tools.
  • Must have experience in test, validation, reliability and certification of turbine controls and software.
  • Must have experience in co-development of technologies with third parties.
  • Should have experience in driving or developing operability methodologies and their tradeoffs.
