Position Summary

Responsible for assigned activities within the Resident Engineering team at the construction jobsite.

Typical Responsibilities

  • Applies broad and diversified knowledge of Engineering Principles and Practices to Project Engineering.
  • Makes decisions independently concerning problems on the project.
  • As assigned, represents the Design Execution Project Engineering Manager on the project and with the client to resolve technical questions and to coordinate work as required.
  • Supervises and provides technical direction to subordinate engineers, scientists, specialists, designers, and drafters as assigned.
  • Maintains contacts with client representatives as directed, with suppliers, appropriate field personnel, Project Engineers, and Engineering disciplines to ensure the coordination of the work within the project or assignment and compliance with Bechtel/client requirements.

Responsible for Managing the Resident Engineering Team including the following:

  • Accountable to the Project Engineering Manager (PEM) for coordination of Engineering and Construction/Procurement activities, in accordance with the established technical quality standards, cost, and schedule.
  • Accountable to the PEM for the performance of select engineering tasks, in accordance with the established technical quality standards, cost, and schedule.
  • Accountable to the PEM for ensuring that facilities and systems are installed in accordance with the engineering specifications and requirements.
  • Interface with the customer engineering leads to establish requirements, communicate progress, understand, and resolve customer concerns.
  • Support design change management to ensure that changes that provide limited value and cause rework are not pursued. Exhibit contract awareness to assess whether a change is design development or a contractual change and present/articulate position to customer.
  • Provide technical basis for cost estimates/ROMs to support client understanding of impacts of potential changes; provide support for the Trend process for large cost impacts.
  • Coordinate with the designer of record and provide field support during construction.
  • Support working group meetings with customer and design partners.
  • Support bid, evaluation, and award process for engineering subcontract packages.
  • Support visits to supplier shops for inspections and witnessing of Factory Acceptance Tests as required.
  • Support permitting process and interface with permitting authorities to resolve technical comments and address concerns.
  • Ensure design documents reflect as-built conditions.
  • Manage the specification of construction hold points and inspection requirements.
  • Coordinate resolution of field questions related to field change notices and design change notices.
  • Ensure Resident Engineering tasks are completed within budget and ensures trends are processed for facility scope changes.
  • Champion the creation of a work environment, which fosters openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction on the project.

Skills and Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree with extensive relevant Engineering experience and multi-functional supervisory/leadership experience.
  • Experience of working as Resident Engineer.
  • Experience working in the field at jobsite since this position will be located at the construction jobsite.
  • Fluent in the German language (written and spoken).
  • Technical knowledge of related engineering systems, engineering calculations, applications of engineering and construction methods and materials, and engineering application of computers.
  • Proficient knowledge of project engineering processes and procedures.
  • Knowledge of related construction practices and the economics involved and current knowledge of new methods of design and construction.
  • Knowledge of codes and standards applicable to systems design.
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills.
  • A recognized degree in architecture or engineering discipline from an accredited college or university.
  • Candidates responding to this posting must currently possess the eligibility to work and remain in the European Union without sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous Bechtel experience is most welcome.
  • Experience in Manufacturing and Testing business.
  • Knowledge of project engineering processes and procedures related to semiconductor manufacturing facility.
  • Professional Engineering license
